Timber Protection

The study of wood as a renewable material and organic material is what is known as wood science. The processes and the tools used to utilize the material is what is known as wood technology. Wood is treated as a material in direct comparison with other products. This is a copper-based preservative that is applied to the wood for protection. There are a few disadvantages of this method as a mode of wood preservation. It has been seen corroding most metals for example aluminum in less than six months of its application. The species of the wood and the application of the wood will determine how many chemicals will be used on the wood. Timber being used around a water body will be dipped in a more saturated fluid than that being used above ground.

Another wood treating method that is fast being accepted is the use of copper metal. This method is being accepted fast because is friendly to wooden fasteners. An alternative name to be given to this method is the micronized copper wood preservative method. In this process microscopic particles of solid copper metal are mixed in a liquid carrier and injected to the wood at high pressure. The process eliminates the need to dissolve the copper as is done in earlier copper-based preservatives. The characteristics of the wood are highly improved and the when this process is used to treat wood. The wood products protected using this method last longer.

Termites cannot eat through timber treated through this method. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. The wood treated using this method last longer and is stronger.
